The comedy team of Beckett, Harvey & Manzel top my list for the Tank McNamara Sports Jerk of the Year Award , although it’s so difficult to choose between the three that I might just go with my perennial favorite – Rodger Goodell !
Mad Magazine has a yearly round-up of the “20 dumbest people and events” from the preceding year. (Of course, Donald Trump was number one on the looney losers parade.) For Tom Brady there was a Dr. Seuss parody, “The Pat with the Flat” that is just hilarious. Brady and Goodell get my co-votes this year.
I hate to see something as prestigious as SJoY go to a sports industry executive or arbiter – it really ought to go to someone playing the game.
But if I did give it to a nonsportsman, I would award it to every baseball writer who failed to vote for the guy with a lower ERA than any HoFer born since 1900.
