I hear ya sista! I have learned if I get time to myself, I power clean then spend the rest of the time enjoying how clean it is until the kids/hubby get home (because DH is worse than the kids about keeping things clean and making messes). I spend tons of time with my family and we’re always doing stuff together. I figure a couple of hours a month won’t hurt anyone and it makes me happy, aka help preserve my sanity, lol!
ps: what is the point of dusting? I have never dusted. Besides, that mess looks like it would take about 10 minutes to clean. She needs to stop being so thorough.
Lizzie’s definitely old enough to help. DS has been saying “all done clean up” since he was 15 months old (although it was more like ada dee-ah). The secret is an awesome home-daycare provider and a little home reinforcement.
My now 2 year old cleans with me, sometimes completely unbidden. He loves helping empty the dishwasher (although at some point I’ll probably regret this), picking up dirty laundry and his own toys.
I’m going to enjoy this while it lasts. Hopefully for a while.
Entropy is to be accepted. I accept gravity.. I clean to the sounds of snores. Then science takes over, “Gee, Mr Science, why does old peoples hair fall out?” “I’m glad you asked, Jimmy. Old peoples hair falls out when they don’t accept science. Take entropy for example.”
Despite many happy memories of FBOFW in the past, after a trite (though true) strip like today’s, I think I’ll be dropping the recycled strip the next time I clean up my subscription.
Well, I don’t feel like to clean up the mess at my home, but I like to put the clean dishes up from the dishwasher and put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and then, that’s it! All I do is sitting and surfing the Internet on my computer for my enjoyable time. :-)
I’m just wondering … why would John say: “Let’s clear the fort, men!” while he’s putting on Lizzie’s jacket? Does he not know that she’s a girl???
Meanwhile, if instead of being such a constant, put-upon martyr all the time, if Elly would just make John and the kids clean up after themselves every once in a while, then maybe the house wouldn’t be so messy all the time and she wouldn’t have to miss fun family outings to spend the entire day cleaning it up by herself!

NOT that she shouldn’t be a housewife (er, homemaker?), IF that’s what she chooses AND she and John have discussed it and worked it out. (Apparently nowadays there is a prejudice against women staying home and keeping house! just as unreasonable as the reverse - people should have a CHOICE.) But that it’s the standard way things were assumed to be done several decades ago, when women’s place was supposed to be in the home. Nobody thought very much about it. The result is the cartoon we see today.
Come to that, how many people, on reading it today, would say, “There’s something wrong with doing things this way.”?
She actually does a disservice to her family by training them in bad habits - picking up after them, etc.
heck, my 2-year old already knows better than to throw food on the floor as Lizzie’s doing in the first panel. Maybe always cleaning for the family (instead of teaching the kids and hubby how to help out) is how Elly got her skinny figure back after pregnancy?
Lizzy must be having a groth spurt, betweeen panal 1& 3 she has sucked down a banna and an apple. then in the last panal she is finishing a popcycle. Heaven only knows how much she ate while they were out.
