Ha! Didn’t this about Travelers Checks come up awhile ago? After seeing it I looked and found about $70 worth in my desk. Took them to my bank and signed them into my account. So thanks for the reminder. Happy New Year to all.
If you still use them, you’re lucky if you can find someone to actually cash them. I took a road trip 10 years ago. Only one place in Nebraska has a sign that said they accepted them.
A place where I worked used to pre-pay the per-diem for business trips with them. They stopped doing that about 15 years ago but I still have some left over from all the business traveling I did.
I ws going through Texas in 1967. Stopped at and-out-of-the way gas station and tried to pay with a traveler’s check. Everyone in town (about 10) had to look at and ask what it was. I had to pay cash.

My wife and I got that very same reaction — in 1999.
Where have you gone, Karl Malden?

I usually get a better exchange rate with travelers checks. Now I go to a bank overseas and obtain a cash advance. Very easy.

They still make them, but you made me curious. The only place I could buy them in my area is the Asian banks.
