One of the things about living around dogs is that you get to understand their language. Even living in a city where we have lots of street curs, you can decipher their barking – especially at night. They know who does and doesn’t belong in their neighborhood and let you and the neighbors know when a stranger is there. They are terrific burglar alarms and deter would-be robbers.Dogs don’t bark without reason. It might be for attention, to attract or repel other dogs, to complain or beg their owner to let them out to do their business. If you pay attention, they’ll let you know their feelings.
At the moment we don’t have a pooch ( due to my wife’s allergies ) but the barrio bowsers are great guard dogs and I don’t mind their barking at night.
The rooster across the street, who can’t tell time, is another story !
