The only thing that sucks more than stupid comments like the ones I occasionally post are these BULLSH!T advertisements that have started to appear. Political bickering and name calling is MUCH more enjoyable. What do you folks think?? Cheers!

Yeah. I definitely have more fun when the “advertisements” are missing.

I have an idea. Bring the troops home and spend the saved money on jobs and infrastructure. Silly me.

michaelwme: Then the NYT is staffed and read by idiots, or, to be kinder, the ignorant. The Founders knew exactly what they were doing when they made the civilian head of government superior to any military head. They were trying to avoid what happened in the Roman Republic, where all the Senators were always looking for new people to conquer and steal from, because they benefited from it. They could have set up a “dictator” system to handle times of crisis, but saw that if Rome couldn’t handle it neither could we. When the military thinks they’re more important or even smarter than the civilian government, we’re in trouble. Eisenhower understood this. McChrystal demonstrated bad judgment, he didn’t just insult Obama. He has every right to do that, and to do it to Obama’s face, and if he were a private citizen, I’d cheer him on whether I agreed with him or not. But he was not a private citizen, and his role explicitly made him the person executing the nation’s strategy. Compromising it through poor judgment in confiding to the media has earned him his firing.

“Any general who fails to do so MUST be immediately sacked.”

I have asked, and ask again - please let me know when it became standard military procedure to bleeep about your co-workers - military or not - in front of the Rolling Stone, especially when these coworkers are the people you are deciding the US policy on Afghanistan with.

I’d say Gen. McChrystal didn’t get in trouble because he smart-mouthed Biden and co, but because of just how he did it. Sorry if I expect generals appointed to highly visible positions to think before speaking, or be careful with whom they get drunk.
