wow! I had completely forgotten that it was cool & edgy to make fun of republicans eight years ago.

Exactly. Even though the arrest occurred in June of 2007, the scandal peaked in August (thus the date of the article @bgz123 points to). That was two months before this strip was published. The point is that at the time nothing good was expected to come from a Republican politician in an airport bathroom regardless of his companions.

My hubby’s paternal grandmother used to like to ride the family cow. (True, and others have, too.) Luckily, she was not a jumper or she’d have gotten udderly stuck if the rail was set too high.
