    One of my coworkers gives me a jar of jelly or jam every now and then. Good times at breakfast.

    One year my wife(dear lady) and her aunt decided to quit letting all the elderberries along the country roads in her(the aunt’s)county go to waste. They put up I don’t know how many pints of elderberry jelly—we’ve finally ran out. They are thinking about next year as being the year to do it again. Can’t say as I blame them but it takes an awful lot of elderberries and guess who has to ‘wade into the fence rows’ to get them ??

    The important thing about jam and jelly is that the fruit has to be fresh picked from a garden and not bought from a store or market.

    That is so true. Homemade jam and some imported jam are made with A and B grade fruit, while the canneries use the worst of the worst for jam and juice.

    Remember the old motto for Mary Ellen brand jams and jellies? “A cup of sugar to a cup of juice!” Consumers were not as health conscious back in the 1950’s and 60’s.
