Even the $40 tree would have fallen apart hanging out the back of the car like that. That’s why they wrap trees in a mesh sleeve when you buy them.

That is not a truck. Trucks do not have hatchbacks. That is either an SUV or a station wagon.
It obviously hasn’t been in water so the cheapness equals the life time left of a dying tree.

Dad would always go to the nursery and buy a live tree….after Christmas, he’d plant it in the yard.
They live in new hampshire. Just go in the woods and get one.
