It’s all a macho thing. Face hair, tattoos, guns, trophies, high horsepower cars, all the same thing. Guys trying to show how wonderful and cool they are.

I killed a mosquito once. Does that make me a manly man?

and, it really isn’t hunting. a yokel drives around in a jeep, you shoot from the safety of the vehicle(with gun supports, night vision, and assorted tech), and, then you take your photo with it and post it on facebook. then, the yokel skins the animal, decapitates it, and let the body to rot(no donation to local communities). but, they say it’s better than going to a enclosed hunting facility(shooting gallery). there is no communing with nature. it is really high tech against nature. it is about as bad as those wealthy people buying themselves onto an olympic team and participate as an athlete. (bermuda as a winter ski team?)

vwdualnomand: Still haven’t recovered from the first Jamaican bobsled team defeating both US teams?,louieglutz: What made it newsworthy was it was a) illegal, b) the iconic image of Zimbabwe’s ecotourism program (and major source of international funds). Thus an armed attack on a sovereign nation. Extradite the bum to receive justice – if they can find him under the protection of the NRA. Try the Idaho panhandle, that’s where killer cops and neo-Nazis go to hide.

Excellent suggestion, Redman. Let’s see how brave they are shooting something that shoots back.

When I was a kid, used to play with a friend of the family’s pet African lion who’d been in the movies, Tarzan “killed” him several times in the movies. I’ve always had a soft spot for big cats since that time.

I’ve also hunted for years, for foodstuffs, deer and birds mostly, never cared about trophies as you can’t eat antlers. Shooting bears? Only did that with dart guns to move or treat them, never had the desire to kill or eat one.

And of course, Cecil was first hit with a crossbow bolt after being lured out of a refuge compound. Actually, I’d like to see the guy extradicted if only to face up to the wildlife charges, as the folks in Zimbabwe are really ticked. Make a “trophy” out of him to disuade others, with a real jail sentence, not just a fine.

I got properly pissed over a year ago, when I learned that Elephants are still legally hunted in Africa! This animal, majestic in size (size DOES matter!) with a highly-developed social structure, intelligence and emotions deserves respect far more than most men are willing to give. I don’t know how many more years I have left, but it is possible that I may hear the news of the last Elephant, (or Rhino) poached, or brought down LEGALLY!

And, I have read that this dentist has done this before: Shot a black Bear in a protected zone, then dragged it quite far away into a legal area! The game wardens were not fooled, and he was fined.
