Had a buddy who said his cheap clubs were messing up his game. One weekend another friend of mine was visiting from out of town and wanted to play golf. He didn’t have any clubs so we borrowed my friends “cheap clubs.” The guy shot something like a 75 that day. I called the owner who gave us the loan and said, “It ain’t the clubs.”
I had an uncle who was a very good golfer but was always looking for ways to improve his game. This resulted in yearly purchases of new putters or drivers or irons. Whatever promised a longer drive or a more accurate putt. His purchases were encouraged by my brother, also an avid golfer because invariably, my brother received the cast offs. I don’t think my brother every bought a club or putter for 30 years !
Last year I broke my driver of 8 years. The head face busted when I teed off. It now goes ‘thud’ instead of ‘thunk’. Pro said he hadn’t seen anything like that happen before. I have since tried 10 or 15 drivers in the simulator and gone through 4 drivers on the course trying to find one I am comfortable with. I have taken to putting life jackets on my drivers for this very reason as I can at least recover and trade it in for a different one if I toss it in frustration.
My whole golf bag once committed suicide by throwing itself in the lake. I tried to save it, but unfortunately I only managed to rescue my Car Keys. Luckily they on cost me 25 bucks at a yard sale.

Shoe & John Daly have a lot in common. Except for Daly it was a 6 iron that hit the water on Friday.
