Beat me to the punch. As for yesterday’s translation, I should have changed the name Ulysses to say “Odysseus.” Forgive me.. Should I commit another such error, I will commit cyber-seppuku.

    Beware of geeks bearing gifts.

And of Greeks asking for them.

There is nothing harder than the heart of a German woman when the money is due. ( I had a German landlady once, so I know. )

Under Merkel, Germany finished paying off its $44B WWI debt in October 2010. Germany only had their debt revised once… Greece is on its third turn of asking for revisions. Germany settled its WWII reparations in 1990. I think if you pay your bills, you are likely entitled to hold others accountable.

I stand by my first comment after reading about the deal the Greeks accepted.

The question is, should the Greek people be driven into poverty because of the greed and corruption of politicians? As for Germany, when all that debt was forgiven after WWII, how was that different. There too, the question was should the German people be driven into poverty because of the spinelessness and bigotry of politicians?

Communist Vietnam paid all Vietnamese loans back to the U.S.A., including everything South Vietnam borrowed from U.S.A. during the war. Of course, South Vietnam borrowed money from the U.S.A. that the U.S.A. forced on South Vietnam, particularly loans for corrupt government and military weapons to destroy communist North Vietnam. The repayment of all U.S.A. loans by communist Vietnam after Saigon became Ho Chi Minh city is a lot more impressive than any debt Germany paid.
