Dawn breaks over Marblehead. (Check a map of Massachusetts if you don’t understand the reference.)

Hire a maid and a chef for the week. Cheaper than flying, hotels, meal out. That way you get to stay home and she does not have to work. Just gave myself an idea for my next vacation.

For you stay-at-homes: I’m glad you’re happy at home. But I’d rather see somethng new now and again The U.S is a nation of know-it-all “they should be just like us” xenophobes that got us the well-deserved reputation of “The Ugly American”. Being a guest in somebody else’s country and experiencing how they live (and not beng a judgemental jerk) is a good thing — and does not come about by sitting on your duff watching travelogues on TV and the internet.

I do both — staycations and travel. They’re different and neither is superior.

But who gets the kids? If she does, she can’t do as she pleases, she’ll have to do as THEY please. If he does, it won’t be much of a vacation, but he may appreciate all she does
