What the hell got Gary on to this, I wonder? Has bad hygiene at MIT been in the news lately?

Extreme intelligence can lead to some pretty odd behavior. Why would anyone interfere with college studies just for soap or shampoo?

MIT has a graduation requirement that one pass the swim test which consists of jumping into the pool and swimming 100 yards continuously. This emphasis on hygiene may be to avoid a giant dirty ring around the pool.

I think one of the commenters a couple of days ago did mention that it was in the news up there - but that sounds like a pretty local issue, and I haven’t been following it. Still, it’s funny.

I felt insulted when a drill instructor at Parris Island taught us how to brush our teeth, trim our nails, and take a shower. It was later explained that many men who raised their hand had never seen running water.. I did learn to brush the drips off before towelling.

Some of us learn our hygiene from MIT, some from the grand Old Corps. And then Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children were sent to spend a nice time in a wonderland of limited showers and other cleanliness measures.

One trip back from the outback, the crew of the ‘46 was forced into the pilot’s area because we were rather, ummm, ripe.

Good for MIT. Hope it holds…

Then they graduate MIT and make enough money to buy people who won’t tell them they smell.

If you have one continuous kegger from the beginning to the end of your college career, the smell of vomit drowns out the scent of BO. Then again, it also drowns out your future.

@ Lewreader,,,, Strange but we in the Army didn’t have that problem.

    Just kidding…………..

Some people come from the back country where running water is a luxury and thus indoor plumbing as well. Add to this the privacy issue of undressing in front of strangers and you end up with these problems.

Wait guys! Before you turn on the water you should take all the junk out of the shower stall (no, it’s not a closet). Then remove your clothes. THEN turn on the water.

That’s what happens all the time! I say to myself, “Doonesbury is just going too far, Garry Trudeau exaggerates too much,” and then I find out that he’s not even exaggerating at all, that the situation really happened.

Ok, so Drew is the roommate of Mike Doonesbury’s daughter, who is Toggle’s girlfriend? But now I’ve forgotten her name - what is it?

@benbrilling, if these guys smell bad, their clothes probably do too, so they might as well leave them in the shower while they wash themselves.

Bill W – it’s finals time at college – nobody eats, sleeps, showers, deoderizes or anything else except cram for finals. And yes, it does happen. I was a college student and then prof, I know the smell.

Please don’t insult the skunks. I like the smell of skunk and it isn’t anything like human body odor, which I find extremely unpleasant.

I’ve always said that MIT stinks.

Its name should be changed to the Sam Houston Institute of Technology.

MIT is, after all, a place of learning. And now, at least two people are learning about showers.

Did he take his clothes off before stepping in? Did any of those brochures include laundry tips?

What until next week when Trudeau takes on the growing gender obesity gap. All next week it’ll be “fat bleeep city.”

That’s sure to raise the hackles of the plump posters.

Wouldn’t stinking up the room give one an edge on the finals? Especially if the other students are uncomfortable, can’t breathe, or have to leave the room?
