I suppose he’s planning to leave the lake via the creek that drains it under Ted’s snazzy house. That’s if the motor is more powerful than the whirlpool, which is highly unlikely.
If the ground is already moving, it doesn’t bode well for Ted’s house and studio.

Ohbayashi Gumi was safety minded enough I guess but they were so cheap, stingy and more apt to step over a hundred dollar bill to save a dime every time. I did love Utah and the people were absolutely wonderful. I did have one guy in Utah that I could not get along with his name was Lee Reneger and he was bowlegged, knock-kneed, cross eyed, hump backed, pigeon toed, long haired, baud, too skinny, fat butted, false teeth that did not fit with bad breath. He was very mean spirited and nobody liked him or wanted anything to do with him. He did make an effort to make my job harder than it already was … believe me he did live to regret that..That is where I got saved in 1984 and I totally forgave him and from that time going forward I never thought about him until now actually. .The Japanese transferred him to California because he ended up costing them a fortune with some of his decisions. This guy was what we called No mining, and to a hard rock miner that is the worst thing to be called. Not one time in my hard rock mining career was I ever called no mining..I have know a lot of no mining sons of guns in my life but on the same note I have know some serious, awesome, bad to the bone rock breaking guys that would stand flatfooted look the devil right in the eye and not back down to anything except maybe a helpless child or an elderly person and at the same time they were brave but humble.
Some famous Hard Rock Miners that I truly loved and worked with were; Bob Wagner Wells, Charlie Bateman, Mitch, Randy & Harry Counts, Chad Hardman, Calvin Monk, Milton Jay May, Lee Roy Roberts, Tom Nearhood, Clair Crum and one of my heroes and favorite hard rock miner of all time Glenn Eller we called him Junior and I loved that man (may he rest in peace) Junior could not read or write but he was one of the smartest and bravest people on earth that I ever had the honor of knowing and working with.

In the real Lake Pligneur, (which this event is patterned after), nearby Gulf Ocean water came rushing in. Would that be the case here ?

Hey! Wait a minute! With that eddy, the lake is dropping like crazy, but where dumbazz Tellum is standing, the water is coming up! Really? Like others are saying, why the heck doesn’t he have the sense to climb up instead of endangering a million dollar chopper and three more lives?
I doubt that Jimmy or Ted are aware of the whirlpool. It is a large lake and it is not certain that they are able to see the destruction from their vantage point inside a bay. The drilling rig was visible from Tellum’s house but Tellum took his boat to another part of the lake to do his bird watching.
@John Russell: thank you for your kind words. I just got home a short while ago. I reread my comment. You are correct. It was a typo. (I have developed problem in my left eye. Scar tissue has formed on the retina so I ignore the image from that eye. Surgery is scheduled for June 12. The doctor says the recovery will be slow). Ted Tellum is only there because he thought Choo Shooz needed help.
That said, he might ultimately be safer there than if he hadn’t succumbed to a fleeting flight of Samaritan fancy.
Hence, literal “Flight” is likely Ted’s best option for survival.
Will “The Friendly Fella’s” house go down with the ship, though?
