What’s the “reasonable” suspicion here? Still waiting for someone to post a list of criteria why someone might get asked for their papers or sued if they don’t. They’re not asking everyone for their papers.
Paper Work in order - License, Insurance, Truck Rental Forms & it didn’t hurt that he looked like “The Boy Next Door - clean cut & polite”. No need to ask for proof of citizenship.
McVeigh looked like someone Mothers would encourage their Daughters to date until they found out what kind of “Monster lurked in ”it’s heart.”
I find it entertaining that you throw out a blaring generalization and then fear reprisal.
I figured the story on the Harvard Professor case was somewhere in the middle. Usually is.
I’ve been profiled by police growing up, but I still trust them.
Interestingly however, despite the Right’s issues with the government, it’s often them who are the first to jump to having government tell us who and who we cannot marry, whether or not we deserve equality of employment and housing or military service, and even whether or not women have to “watch” an ultra-sound while a baby is aborted. And now whether or not we have to carry papers as American citizens because the police might have to search us or face getting sued by “other” citizens who might think we are illegal immigrants. The Right, after all, often claims that profiling is necessary for the “greater good.” After all, “don’t search my wife, search the Muslim guy over there, it’s not my wife who’s a potential terrorist*.”

Please note I qualified my post with the word “often.” You disagree with one or more of those things? Good for you. You’re the exception. I don’t want to hear it.
To be objective and fair, McVeigh was CAUGHT precisely because his “papers” WERE NOT in order, but he HAD committed an offense first that legitimately called for an “interview”.
McVeigh was pulled over for driving without plates, but was arrested ‘cause he had a gun tucked into his belt. If Oklahoma had had concealed or open carry at the time, he would’ve just gotten a ticket and been sent on his way.
And it was because he mentioned it to the officer, at least according to the tapes. He could have killed the guy, particularly with his level of training.
So what argument are you trying to make? Tim McVeigh did not come into this country illegally nor was he an illegal immigrant and therefore not required under Federal law to carry immigration information on him.
This appears to be another lame attempt to smear Arizona for basically taking Federal law that is already on the books and enabling their state and local officials to enforce it.
“So what argument are you trying to make? Tim McVeigh did not come into this country illegally nor was he an illegal immigrant and therefore not required under Federal law to carry immigration information on him.”
BINGO! Now you see the issue many of us have with the Arizona law. LEGAL Citizens of the country which may look like illegal immigrants due to their ethnic background are still LEGAL citizens of the country and are NOT required under Federal Law to carry immigration information on them. YET if such people are requested to show their papers they will be arrested for not having them.
“…Just as slavery of course shouldn’t stop commemorating the Confederacy.”
If people want to celebrate the Confederacy let them, just don’t make an official state proclamation purposefully excluding Slavery, which was one of the prime driving factors for the war (the right to own slaves), and then say “it wasn’t an important part of the war to us and that’s why I didn’t include it.”
“You are required to have photo ID on you at all times.
Failure to have photo ID present it when stopped and asked to present identification is reason enough to be arrested,”
I can get photo ID that says I’m a 12 year old Nigerian princess. By the way my father is interested in helping to bring a lot of money into the U.S.! And if you’re willing to help you can keep a cut of the money. All he needs is your routing number…..
I expect the point is that the Arizona Law will likely to little toward stemming terrorism or drug violence. It won’t make the citizens of Arizona any safer.

His papers weren’t in order because he didn’t have them be. He left the license plate off of the car or he would never have been pulled over.

McVeigh received his combat training not from AlQaeda but the U.S. Murder Corp.

what point is he trying to make? Duh- maybe racial profiling? You think?
Not a problem for some white people, apparently, who deep down still believe their skin privileges are the final word.
