True situation. My aunt had a cat years ago that looked like he had been through the war and strutted his stuff like he won the war. I was outside and saw a large dog trotting down the street toward my aunt’s house where the cat was lounging on the front porch. The dog must have thought he was the tough one and charged the cat. I couldn’t see what happened. It happened so fast! But, an instant later the dog was ‘ki-yi-ing’ down the street with his tail between his legs and the cat was calmly licking its paws on the front porch.

Fun to see! I loved that cat from then on!

Another true situation. Our cat Charlie was a street survivor we took in. When Charlie was at the vets getting a complete physical exams, shots, & neutered, the vet let him roam loose next to his office. Some dogs also allowed to roam loose came down the hall. Dogs saw & heard Charlie, who had a lion’s growl. All four big dogs turned tail & went the other way. Charlie survived the suburban streets eating dog’s food. But Charlie got along with our other 2 cats & dog just fine as “the boss”.

…years ago, our neighbour’s female Dobie stuck her head under our fence to bark furiously at my old cat who was sunning himself in the middle of the yard (deliberately, by the way, in order to annoy the neighbour’s dogs)…well, didn’t she get stuck trying to pull her head back in. Her barking got more and more frantic as my old cat sauntered closer and closer to her, until he was RIGHT THERE…he then started beating her about the face with his paws – NO CLAWS, hee, hee – she was just frantic and howling…neighbour came out of the house at a run, managed to get her head out from under the fence with lots of yelling of “You stupid dog!” while my cat slowly sauntered back to his sunny patch. Dog didn’t have a scratch on her, but she never stuck her head back under the fence, and she never barked at him again :)

I’d like to see the dog turn around, and smack Garfield with his tail.

Years ago, I had a cat named Clawed Thomas who was outside under the car port. A neighborhood dog wandered up…and kept inching closer and closer…sniffing. Clawed never arched his back, hissed, or tried to run. The dog took one step too close, and in an instant, Clawed reached out and smacked the dog in the nose…not even moving towards the dog….the dog left howling and yipping….never to return.

My sister had a German Shepard and she kept him chained up in front of the garage where he liked to nap. A white, fluffy, arrogant cat who lived next door loved to prance around on the fence top about 15 feet from where the dog was lying, irritating the dog. One day the cat was strutting around right in front of Bevo the GS, and unbeknownst to the cat, he wasn’t on his chain. My sister caught him just in time to make him spit the cat out. The cat was unharmed, but she never did that again!

Love all the stories of cats getting the best of dogs.
