Film critics get severely burned out. Every week they see 3-5 new movie variations of the fact that there are 16 basic scripts, and Rocky Horror Picture Show.
I usually don’t agree with the movie tastes of university cinema history instructors employed as movie critics when I want $12 worth of escape and entertainment.Spoiler Alert: The Oscar for Leading Actress goes to the best nude scene.
There’ve been some movies that got in the 40% range of Rotten Tomatoes that I thought were wonderful, and others that got in the 90’s that I found deadly dull. Critics don’t like the kind of movies that people enjoy.

Yup. It was “Rudy” and “Dead Poet’s Society” that did it for me… I HATED those “classics!”

My motto for decades has been; “If the local critic likes it; I DO NOT see it; if the critic hates it; I’ll probably love it!”…. ;-)

In the case of 50 shades of Grey, I’m pretty sure I’d agree with the critics

Actually for me, the critics and I are usually about on the same page.

The trick is to find a critic who likes the same stuff you do. Saves a lot of money.

Except Peter Travers. His reviews are usually spot on! At least for my tastes.

I’ve found rottentomatoes to be a pretty good guide.

If it has a half star, it’s a keeper.
