“Jack Taylor” set in Galway, “Shetland” in the Shetland Islands and “Case Histories” set in Edinburg take a bit of concentration,And then, there is Mhz’s International Mystery Series.

I enjoy the shows and after many years of watching British television I catch most of the conversations. On the other hand, my wife has some actual hearing loss and accuses the actors for “mumbling”. Hearing aids or closed caption is in her future!

Egrayj: They are in my wife’s present; she uses closed caption for US shows and has been known to turn the volume down so far, she is going totally on captions. At least her show are not disturbing that way.

Rent or buy the DVDs. They have subtitles, and I understand twice as much of what the downstairs staff is saying.

Check out AcornTV.com. A great website for about $50.00 a year for British mysteries, comedies etc. Plus, subtitles.

Sometimes on a sitcom you’ll see a different (and usually funnier) line on the closed captioning than what is spoken.Scrubs did this a lot.
