Splendid! For those of you who don’t want to do the hard work of typing in that TinyURL yourselves, here’s the link in today’s comic:
Thought Terminating Cliches
“We will have to agree to disagree” has always been one of the most offensive ones to me. Usually I get that one from people who are wrong about something and are uncomfortable with how thoroughly they are being trounced by my rhetoric.
Thus the origin of the idea that if you place a penny on a railroad track, it will derail the train. What actually happens if you try it, is that the penny is flattened. The real reason parents tell you not to put a penny on the track is that they know you are probably not aware enough to be safe anywhere in the vicinity of a train. My favorite way of terminating all opposing thought is to simply say, “I already said.”
I have a standing answer “You must simply ……” I just respond, “I am not simple-minded enough to simply …!” Example: “I am not simple-minded enough to simply adjust!”
Stan Lee,Marvel Comics’ notoriously liberal editor’s decades old catchphrase “Nuff Said” has been adopted by know-it-all right wing internet posters as a “conversation” ender. It denotes their unwillingness to hear any counter arguments to their pre-conceived thoughts, which mimic dozens of their fellow posters on the internet.
Whenever I try to come up with the words to express how much Frog Applause means to me, and why it’s the main reason I visit GoComics, I can’t find the right words. I don’t want to come off as sappy or silly. I keep hoping that someone else, who feels the same way, will put together the words that I wish I could say and post them here.
Oh! Now I see! This is the way to nirvana! Achieve non-thought and a perfect state of just be-ing by using profound cliches to simultaneously enlighten and annoy! After all, I am a human being, not a human doing and I wholly embrace the moment as it unfolds! Cluck Cluck Om, Cluck Cluck Om, Cluck Cluck Om….
I’ve always enjoyed Frog Applause. I’m a retired Navy (USMC) Chaplain…Clergy are, certainly, your target demographic. Always delightfully twisted, you have knocked it out of the park for the last few weeks. Keep up the good work.
