Now that I think about it this reminds me of Henry Kuttner’s short story “Hydra”.A man discovers a book that teaches the secrets of astral projection, but the book turns out to be bait in a trap. Anyone using the techniques is eventually drawn to the realm of a Great Old One who dwells on the astral plane, which then devours the traveler.
