I met a great shop owner. He takes away everybody’s tools at 5:30 and they have to leave or have a beer with him. He gets 5 hours of work out of them everyday. When he had overtime he got 3 hour of work. The best system is paying by completed billable hours.
Mutt’s a fine worker. Obviously the 25 year boss is Mrs. Mutt. Like Jimmy Durante’s line when his friend Hit-’em-in-the-head-Schwartz asked after not seeing him for some time if he was still working for the same group. Durante replied, Yeh, the wife and the kids.

A tip for the boss: If you don’t want people leaving as soon as it’s quitting time, offer overtime.
