You Americans would have complained if your current POTUS had attended. As he typically has a a fleet company him wherever he travels it would have been immensely expensive, and you would have complained about that as well.I assure you, there is no doubt that we know that the USA and its Leader have the firmest stance against terrorism. This cartoon is indeed a cheap shot and irrelevant, it makes your mighty nation look petty.

Yeah, POTUS attending would have caused a lot of problems, but what the fk, wasn’t Attorney General Holder already in Paris?

The excuse that his security entourage would distract from the rally is pretty lame and a insult to all the other head of state that were there with THEIR security!

    1. The “freedom fries” contingent would have gone nuts if he’d have gond.

    2. Unlike the toon image, a wide view of these “leaders” shows they weren’t anywhere NEAR the main body of the demonstration.

    3. Had Obama been there, he’d have been chastized for standing either nearer Netanyahu or Abbas.

4.Since the Americas weren’t represented by any natioal leaders, while I DO support world unity against “terrorists”, this was more a European “thing”. Which, if GHW hadn’t told Saddam to go ahead and invade Kuwait years ago because it was an “Arab to Arab thing”, maybe we wouldn’t still be engaged in Afghanistan and Iraq, getting more ’collaterals" killed. (and ticking folks off)

George W Bush was in Edinburgh atteninding a G-20 summit on July 7, 2005 when the attacks in London occurred. He did not go down to London with Tony Blair to standby by our ally in its time of need. He immediately flew BACK TO WASHINGTON. The next day, July 8, he went to the British Embassy in Washington to sign the book of condolences. The reason he probably did this was because Secret Service told him to leave for his own security reasons. Think about logistics of having the President attend a rally in a foreign country on less than 48 hour notice. The British or German Chancellor can have breakfast with their families at home, fly to Paris for the rally and be back in their capitals in time for dinner. It isn’t that easy when you’re on the other side of the pond.

And just for the record, no head of state from the Western Hemisphere attended the rally; this includes the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper.

No, Bush would have ended up at the Hague facing war crimes charges. There is a reason he doesn’t travel.
