Yes stuperfan, I, too, miss Johnny.
Yes, Richard, the message is in there, but so well hidden that it will get missed, or misinterpreted as another springtime paean
I liked that Johnny had the courage of his convictions, and was willing to stand for them in a world that doesn’t stand for much.
Happy Eoster, to one and all! Enjoy the Rites of Spring, and the the Fertility Festival! (This is not intended as a swipe at my Christian friends. As what is currently known as Easter is an extension of an ancient pagan ritual, my pagan friends deserve to be acknowledged as well.)
Happy Eoster makes more sense with all those decorated Eggs hidden about. Reminds me of when I was a kid & my parents decided to hide them outdoors. Before we could “Hunt” them, a big Nor’ Easter came along & buried them under a foot of snow☃
Just as I ignore Jesus at Christmas, I ignore him again on Easter. Bunnies, flowers, and eggs; could the fertility symbolism be more obvious? Spring is definitely worth celebrating, regardless of the baggage heaped on.
The Pagans at this time of year for many years before the Christians, celebrated the Goddess Eoster. She appeared at the Vernal Equinox carrying a basket of eggs, and accompanied by 2 baby rabbits.
Another celebration used by the Christians.

The poem is nice…but…I think Johnny Hart would be disappointed. Easter about more than just grass breaking through in spring.

I refuse to call it Easter. I had never thought of calling it Resurrection Day,. I kind of like that.
I found this very interesting:

Happy Hilaria or the Day of Joy, a time of feasting and merriment.” Easter is the Christian version of this. Another good reason to eat chocolate! ♥
