Notice how Hobbes has his feet crossed in the last panel as he is reading the book, just like a real tiger.

A book about snakes, or a book about Zits……….that’s a tough one!

Good work, Hobbes (both of you). Calvin will have a hard time deciding which cringe and/or fear-inducing creature to study for a living; insects, snakes, or lizards.

Not every kid has a stuffed tiger as a mentor.

Cool, is right. One of my all time favorites. And you know what, books during the summer are the best as they consist of your choice, not assigned. Right now reading to my granddaughters in the hammock out back are some of the great things in life.

The joy of learning. Too bad the public school system beats that out of kids.

I love snakes but have not seen one in a few years. And I hike in the desert or mountains nearly every day.

C&H are confused about poisonous vs venomous. Poisons are toxins you eat. Venoms are toxins injected into you via teeth, stingers, etc. Snakes are venomous, not poisonous.

I hated writing book reports on assigned books, but when they let me choose my own, I was fine.

The next to the last panel says it all: Even work is fun if no one makes you do it!

Interesting factoid, Calvin: Snakes do not have eyelids, but lizards do!

I saw some snakes in our local museum. When I lightly tapped on the glass, It’s head would be in line with my finger. It’s like I was patting them.

They were so cute. Also saw some boa constrictors and a cobra. Fascinating but not so cute.

Is it time for a couple of snake jokes? No! Too bad…

Why did some snakes disobey Noah when he said “Go forth and multiply”? They couldn’t, they were adders!

Which hand would you use to pick up a dangerous snake? Someone else’s!

And now for something completely different…

Next to last panel: Tom Sawyer figured that out when he got all the other boys to whitewash the fence for him.
