I think the embargo should have been ended a long time ago. In Theory we live in a free country where we should be allowed to pursue happiness and do business with whomever we choose. Unless their is a politically connected constiuency who wants to hold our business interests hostage so they can obtain something they want.
If you can’t show me the imminent threat cuba poses to the US then I say “tear down the wall”. We have much more opportunity to influence cuba with normalized relations then we do by shunning them.
The Cubans are far more oppressed by U.S. sanctions and embargoes than they are by their own government. Why does the U.S. think they have the right to determine another country’s way of life if they are not threatened by that country. In fact Cuba could become a close friend and trading partner of the U.S. if allowed. Then it is a short step to Cuba voluntarily adopting more free enterprise economic principles, either China style or western style, which for certain would be in Cuba’s best interest.

I am sure the embargo will turn into support after Castro’s regime has been confirmed as done.
