I can’t see how it even got to marriage. I would walked out on someone right here and left them to figure out what went wrong. I may have thrown the food at him since he was in such a rush for it to be gone, but, the walkout part, for sure.

Heh. People need to remember that neither Mike NOR Garry Trudeau knew yet that J.J. wasn’t quite playing with a full deck of cards, or would have serious narcissistic tendencies. At the time she was still just an 17 or 18-year-old ponytailed kid who had forced Joanie to confront her past and ineffectually try to persuade her daughter away from the likes of Zeke. Neither J.J. nor her creator knew that she’d fall for the shallow performance art “scene” big time and become so manipulative and trendy. The person she was then genuinely fell in love with Mike.
