What values, what security? Thanks to the actions of those who led us to an unjust war they were intent on before they even took office, and their trashing of all moral argument, they bastardized both.
This cartoon would make a lot more sense if torture worked. It doesn’t. The people who have been caught since 9/11 were turned in by alert civilians — underwear bomber, Times Square bomber, etc.
Uncle Sam would have a much smaller headache if he dwelt on promoting and maintaining values at home and let other nations, other religions, and other cultures have their values without the terror, killing, and destruction from foreign invaders intent on controlling their resources.
In an interview in September 2006 with then-CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric, President George W. Bush said, “I’ve said to the people that we don’t torture, and we don’t.”-And, as proof, those awful prison guards at Abu Ghraib were severely punished and held up as shameful ‘bad apples’.
The visceral revenge response may make you temporarily feel better, but only leads to escalating revenge responses around the world, more violence, more deaths, more sorrow, and the cycle of intolerance and violence continues. The George Bush cowboy swagger approach with the biggest guns may be good for inflating egos and selling beer, it does nothing for advancing the human condition. The world needs leaders with more wisdom and a larger world outlook. Obama might have been a candidate, but has been corrupted by American politics. I wonder if the Dalai lama has time in his busy schedule…..

Values. If you don’t have integrity and good morals, what’s to defend?
