Vegan = can’t hunt, lousy provider. Hopefully a non-dominant trait which will allow them to quietly die off. Besides, like BillWa says, scrawny, not much meat on their bones. I too belong to People Eating Tasty Animals.

Meat is not unhealthy and can certainly be part of a very healthy diet. As with everything we eat it is a matter of quantity.

(Warning: math related joke) I eat animals that eat plants. By the transitive property, my diet is entirely plant-derived, and so I too am a vegan.

I used to love my BBQ & steak, then I saw the documentary Forks Over Knives! Now with no effort I have lost 20 lbs, my husband lost 40 lbs, we are both off our BP and Cholesterol meds and we have loads of energy and sleep better. No cravings for the meat or dairy anymore. Love the new variety of starches, fruits, and veggies! It’s a new lifestyle and we are much happier. I never would have thought that changing the way I eat could have so much effect. Amazing!

Meat cannot be ‘healthy’ anymore than it can be sick. A diet cannot be ‘healthy’ anymore than it can be sick.Meat is a ‘healthful’ addition to your diet,as are the vegetables. That makes your diet ‘healthful.’ Then you will be ‘healthy.’Got it?

However, you are absolutely right about the quantity — too much of a good thing can be a very bad thing.

Child labour laws have an exception for family business. You can have your kids (or grandkids) helping with your business from a very early age (unless it’s classified as a “hazardous occupation,” in which case they can’t start until they are 16.) You don’t even have to pay them! Ask any kid whose parents run a small business. :D

@Wiley, keep up the healthy WFPB messages! Those who don’t yet ‘get it’ make me think back to the days when cigarettes were marketed (even by doctors!) and touted as harmless. Meat is the new tobacco. It will take time to for folks to recognize the peer-reviewed studies which prove how today’s chronic diseases can be cured by eliminating meat and dairy. Our environment, health care and overall future depends on the word getting out. Thank you for your part to make “whole foods, plant based” more visible to the SAD (Standard American Diet) and Vegan communities.

I am not a vegan however, I have a few friends who converted to veganism for health reasons who are doing quite well on their chosen health plan.

And none of them preach about their veganism but they sure are happy to share good recipes.

Then there’s the friend who converted for political reasons. Even my health vegan friends finds him insufferable.

    C’est la guerre.

“Vegans can starve themselves to death, for all I care.”_________________________________

To put in perspective what a vile statement this is, substitute the word “vegans” with “Jews” or “Blacks”, or any other ethnic or religious group of people. It’s as ignorant and wrong as the rest of your post. You come on to MY page and tell everyone you wish I’d die of starvation. My, how civil of you.

No, prfesser, medical evidence (research) is increasingly showing how bad meat is in your diet, particularly red meat, with all the chemicals and drugs that are being pumped into animals.

And just where do you and others here get the notion that vegans are starving themselves? Again, it’s the polar opposite. You eat MORE on a whole-food-plant-based diet, and it’s so much more satisfying than any meat meal. I know that’s hard for most here to swallow (so to speak), but it’s true. The amount of disinformation and outright fabrications here by so many about vegans is sad and borders on bigotry. As the late Tip O’Neil famously said, you’re entitled to your own opinion, but not to your own facts. Why there’s this knee-jerk fear of vegans is quite beyond me. Yes, some are overtly political about it and are obnoxious. This is why I try to avoid using the term “vegan”. It’s become too politicized. The fact is, the vast majority of those who have turned to the whole-food-plant-based diet did so purely for health reasons. And if it didn’t work, where it turned out to not be healthful (as so many here incorrectly have said), don’t you think they’d abandon it? Why would they continue on it if it didn’t make them feel better? The fact is, you DO feel better by getting meat and dairy (fat) out of your system and have far more energy than ever. I know this flies in the face of everything most of you believe, but if you did a little research into it with an open mind, you might learn that we’ve been lied to all our lives.

Think about it for moment…your mother (like EVERY mothers) tried desperately to get you to eat more vegetables. Why? If meat is so wonderful and healthful, why does every doctor and nutrionist tell you eat a lot more vegetables and fruit and cut way down on meat (especially red meat) and cut out dairy altogether? If eating meat made you feel better and gave you more energy, why would anyone stay on a vegan/vegetarian diet? It defies logic. The information is there and readily available. But if you choose to keep eating meat, great. No one is trying to convert you, only provide you with information. It’s up to you to look into it or ignore it. Like any group of humans, there will be the insufferable fringe element. Unfortunately, it’s this fringe extreme that ends up getting the vast majority painted with their broad brush of public image. But again, this is a health issue, not political issue. Please note the difference and stop with the ignorant stereotyping.

I wonder if it is possible yet to live on an all pill and substitute diet. On a somewhat related note, I think we are headed to a state where real food will be a luxury. Where most people subsist on either an artificial nutrient slurry or soy with some level of flavor.

Actually, dentition pretty much says what diet the critter is intended to consume, T. Rex – meat and carrion; Cats run toward the straight meat eater. Dogs are omnivores, more toward the meat end than humans who are also omnivores by our dention- even the Dalai Lama found he need to add SOME meat to his diet, but yes, too much red isn’t a good idea- so why do Eskimos and Alieut tend to live longer than vegetarian societies? (It’s complex, not just black and white.) Then of course when we get to the herbiores, there are the rumninants and the non- which means there’s varety there too!

If you want to get diet specific, look at avian beaks and diets, true specialists from meat eaters, to omnivores, to vegan. Hmm, even birds that don’t eat meat as adults, ARE fed “meat” as nestlings to improve growth and mineral complexities for bone growth, feathers, etc….

Don’t have time to read all the comments, so if I say something that is already said, sorry. First off, not a Vegetarian or Vegan, but know different eating styles. Before you get “all up and on” against both, do some research. Your pre-conceived notions need some research.

Kaffekup: I am a dedicated omnivore, having seen my dentition. However, I believe factory farming is evil, harming the animals, the environment, the economy, and those who eat the meat. Fortunately, there is a farm just over a couple miles from my house providing grass-fed, no hormone nor antibiotic, beef, pork, goat, and mutton. I also grow some of my own veggies on a sustained basis.

Thank you!. that was wonderfully descriptive. ….. Now something those vegans should be concerned about – - – vegetables are people, too. They have feelings and thoughts. We omnivores understand this. It is why many of us, as children – would try very hard not to eat the smart veggies. ;)))

@WileyI have just read your response to @prfesser. Informative. Unfortunately – the vegans I have met have been of the extreme variety. And deserve to be avoided. They are very scary. But the vegetarians I know have been nice, informative, helpful, and not at all pushy. They are willing to share mealtime with we omnivores. Perhaps because we are all involved in tai chi. A nice blend of different people in the same classes. We omnivores always try to find places for lunch that our vegetarian friends will enjoy just as they will find some place suitable for omnivores.besides as an omnivore – vegetarian meals are fine. Just not all the time.:)
