Once Gunther was in the outback, he was stuck until the next resupply. I expect that was about a month in which time he learned the joy of no running water and no indoor toilets. I’d bet his wardrobe of plaid was decimated by the ordeal too. As for Rosa, I’m guessing she went back to her uncle and his luxury. Reality BITES!

Gunther’s Month in Peru has really changed him a lot, or so it seems. What we are seeing appears to be an entirely New Model Gunther. That could be a little unnerving for Mrs. Berger, and for others, if not actually frightening.Just what did transpire between him and Rosa during those lost weeks in the high country?

Seems his time in the remote village was longer than the blink of an eye (that crazy Luanniverse). At first I was afraid he did not even give it a chance. Glad to see he has not shaved yet. Have a feeling a new and more seasoned Gunther is on the horizon.

Whatever happened, and I hope we get the whole story, burned out Gunther and caught up Rosa in the satisfaction of helping out in the mountain villages. After seeing Reese Witherspoon in the movie, “Wild”, I know that I’m a candy ass and could never function living the primitive, back to nature style of life. Roughing it is a hotel that doesn’t have a Starbucks shop.

"It would have to be " ^Well, it does seem so… but maybe not. One of the main examples I think of is Riverdale. It is said to be based upon Bob Montana’s home in Massachusetts (Somewhere near Haverhill), and upon a couple of places in NY State. But while a few landmarks and place names were used in the first run of Archie Comics to denote this, over the years they’ve made an effort to try to not name any specific place nearby, to make it an “Anytown USA” to make it so it’s "near everyone ". – It sometimes seems that Greg Evans does this, too, that he throws the occaisional “shout out” or two to places near San Marcos, San Diego and LA, but that he doesn’t “come right out” and say that it’s definitely here or there. – Another example I can think of is the airport scene (in July of 2013) when Luann and Frank went to pick up Quill. It had the look and feel of Dulles in DC. – Not saying that it’s not there in SoCal, but just that it seems that it’s not specifically made to be any place “definitively” (would even seem to “fit” along the lines of Greg’s usual M.O., to appeal to everybody)…

I still wonder if “Mr. Gray” is just going to be a “glossed over” subject (from Gunther’s standpoint), and a “throwaway ancillary character” just for the sake of that “one time plot point”…-For that matter, will the same be said of some of the characters at Bernice’s dorm?

A pregnant Rosa?? No way that’s happening, BUT, just what were the living arrangements in Peru? Just thinking about this little clan of recently graduated HS’ers, I do believe that Ol’ Gunthy can be the first one to truly lose his innocence. He is no longer a boy, Momma’s or otherwise. Quill and Luann get all smoochie but I don’t think it went any further. Who thought it would be Gunther.

Why is it that girls can do “boy-stuff” and no one bats an eye, but if a guy does “girl-stuff”, people think he’s gay? Enough with the double standards. He’s not gay just because he likes to sew. Grow up, people!

I find your perspective to be quite odd. You state, “How do you grow as a person and become closer to someone you care for if your not willing to meet them half way in achieving their dream?”++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Let us see…. Gunther ABANDONS his plans, JUMPS willy-nilly on a plane to Peru, FINDS it to be opposite of what Rosa said it would be, MAKES due with what is for several months, FLEES again when Rosa suddenly wants to steal away in a delivery truck….. and GUNTHER did not meet Rosa halfway in achieving her dream?!?!?!?!?!? Bah. My perceptions of Rosa has changed drastically since she was at the start of her Senior Year in high school. She is in reality a rather short-sighted, somewhat self-absorbed person, and IMHO it is ROSA who did not and was unwilling to meet Gunther even 1/10th of the way towards making any sort of long-term relationship.

[grin…. one more thing]… and idealism does not mean stupidity. Rosa’s brand of idealism seems fast-and-furious…. and much more likely to fizzle out quickly that it would have if she had either a) did a more intensive and accurate assessment of how and where she could be helpful, or b) she had longer range goals on how to be best helpful not only for this moment, but in the years to follow.

I share your concern but something tells me that Ma Berger’s mothering words are rolling off Gunther like beads of water on a wax surface. The guy has changed… black coffee not pancakes and syrup.

Another thing in our favor.. In the past, whenever Greg has changed the look of a character, he / she never goes back to their former appearance..e.g. when Luann had her hair straightened as she was going through puberty, and two times for Bern.

Unless were are following a dream Gunther is having, and if Gunther has actually, suddenly appeared at home, Greg has dropped the ball on possibly one of the most exciting potential storylines imaginable. Gunther and Rosa being captured by the Shining Path. After all, weren’t they both talking about finding their “paths?” This silly comic above HAS to be a dream.
