Got it, Red! I remember those things, except I thought the light bulbs were 60-watt? They don’t use light-bulbs anymore, but I am not sure what the heat source is! Anyway, my younger cousins had a few. The “cakes” did taste good!

I wonder what would happen if heat lamp bulbs were used instead of incandescent.

That was my very favorite toy from Santa. I had one of the originals. Had the popcorn maker attachment also. very fun memories. :-)

Sorry Red, Can’t purchase 100 Watt incandescent or even 60 watts in the US any more… and the LED or fluorescent lights will leave the cakes uncooked

Mick, you should replace those bulbs now. You are not saving money and are wasting a ton of electricity. If you bought a garden hose that leaked water all over, would you wait until it broke in half to replace?

The LEDs do contain a tiny bit of arsenic, encased in plastic. They probably won’t do much harm in the short term. Nothing’s perfect.

My daughter and I still talk about the time we messed up by baking the icing. It tasted O.K. but the “batter” was funny looking. LOL

Not a fan of CFL’s here. They’re supposed to save money by being more efficient and lasting ten times longer. My experience is I am replacing them more frequently than I was before I started using them. At least my power company gives me a box of them every year so I don’t have to buy them…

The original ones were from Kenner and then Hasbro. My sister received one of the original ones for Christmas in the early 60’s. You could actually bake a small cake with the thing…

Remember, R+R is set in the late 60s/early 70s.

I thought the little boxes of cake mix were cool. Don’t they have an easy-bake microwave, now??

I hear that in Germany they outlawed old light bulbs, and some enteprenuer continued to sell them but marketed them as “Heat Balls”.
