Transcript:
Luann: "Ok if I tape a few things on the wall?"
Mom: "Sure. Thanks for asking"
Dad: "I like how responsible she's being"
Luann: "We're ok on tape"
Bernice: "Did you ask about staples?"
Well, isn’t that something? A “(Loose) Screw” that can use a stapler… – Not that he hasn’t used one before, though, since he used it to put up decorations at the “Around The World” school dance, last year…. – Would Luann really run amok? Only if you letter ….
“A Loophole In The Wall”“Stationery Front”“Hardware And Tear”“Nailed It!”“No Substitutions, Please”“A Staple Of Success”“So What’s Knute With You?”“Dead Head Letter Office”or“The Hole Truth”
Well, my computer is getting so hosed up that I’ve had enough for the night…’Nite all! ;)-———————————————————“The great tragedy of Science…the slaying of a beautiful hypothesis by an ugly fact.”(T. H. Huxley, 1825-1895)
They could have stuck the letters and even some of the decorations up with wallpaper paste. Peel off and wipe with a damp sponge when done… all gone. Quieter too.
They also have a poster adhesive that is reusable. It used to only be in a “gum-like” form, but they now come in strips….right near the poster supplies at WalMart, or at an arts/crafts store….
Okay, I realize that Knute is this strip’s village idiot but wouldn’t one expect Bernice to have enough gray matter to have stopped him? Isn’t she supposed to be the “smart” one?
Way to go, Knute, you airhead! I don’t see Crystal around, his anchor to reality; this could be dangerous….I hope Frank doesn’t blow a gasket and ground Luann as if she were a little girl!
I suppose it could be worse. It could be a nail gun. But doesn’t Luann have any new friends from the JC, who have more common sense than Knute? Oh right, the strip hasn’t let her meet any new people there. Maybe then she can just invite some of the “shadow people” to the New Year’s Eve not-a-party?
The very fact that Knute is there demonstrates that Luann has not gotten beyond her high school friends. I had thought things would change a bit when she started college.
Rent to girls: expect tape, drawings and paint on walls,; and spilled food and beverages on the carpet. Rent to boys: expect kicked in doors; punched holes in walls; carpet stains from rebuilt motorcycles and pet excrement. Girls are WAY less destructive.
Knute, do you call just stapling up that sign an example of how to damage to a wall? You amateur! Let Brad and TJ bring over their sledge hammers and show you how they look for a missing child.
Why are Luan’s friends so daft? I think my 6 year old knows better than to staple stuff to walls. These are supposed to be university age kids? (shudder)
We’ll have to see where Greg goes with this. At first, I thought it might be a setup for Lu leaving the house and getting her own place, but I’m not sure. She’d have to figure out how to pay for her own place.
I hope Greg’s resolution for today’s strip is really good. He’s going to have to give me a totally plausible explanation for Knute having that stapler in his possession. It just didn’t appear out of nowhere… Did he bring it with him? Did he get it from the DeGroot garage or basement? Or is it just a “gag vehicle” leading to something else?
We’re getting the “moving out” storyline via a second-hand treatment, since it features Bernice rather than Luann. That allows the strip to maintain the DeGroot household’s status quo, which seems to be the goal of the post-graduation timeline.
1 – Frank and Nancy should have easily been able to hear the staple gun and come to investigate. These guns are quite loud and Knute has used it over 30 times already.
2 – Knute suffers from a profound intellectual disability (clinical idiocy) and possibly ADD/impulse control issues. Greg should do a storyline about him and how parents, teachers, friends, and others manage to cope with such a person and how Knute copes with it himself (my step-son is this way, so I speak from personal experience). Also, it would likely be much more interesting (and useful!) than wherever he is going with this. Been a while since we’ve had A Very Special Luann.
LOL! Evans won’t let Luann make a new friend, what makes you think he’d let her move out? This is going to be high school 2.0 for the foreseeable future.
Like I said, “At First, I thought that.” I think Greg will keep Lu in the house as long as there’s any mileage to be gained from her control battles with Frank & Nancy (i.e. “I’m an adult,” vs. “My house… My Rules…”). I’m sure Quill will be brought up for discussion soon enough….
Children sometimes do dumb things.Age is just a number; some children are legally considered adults but are just older children. The intelligence of a group is often lower than that of the dumbest member of the group. To understand is usually to forgive.
SPOILER ALERT-It may be that all this debate about what will happen with the staples in the wall was not so relevant to the continuing story. (Whatever the continuing story is…)
Not only that, but they thought they were being slick, by blocking the living room entrance with the couch. So if Frank feels a need to step into action, the “Van Dyke Automatic Parental Diversion/Delay Unit” will “go to work”…

Knute is Luann;s idea of a “mature, sensible adult”? Come to think of it, it probably is.

He just so happened to remember the stapler, though, as he forgot to put it down after using it from the last time….

He (Knute) probably also went to Staples on the one day they said: “Nah, we don’t got that!”

I don’t use that many staples to hold my carpeting to my stairs. Are you expecting a hurricane Knute?
