“Jaws” is still a well-know piece of pop culture which doesn’t need explanation.Just ask the people at Hallmark, which made a “Jaws” Christmas ornament this year! (Yep, a great white shark pulling a yellow float. “We’re gonna need a bigger tree.”)
One of the good things about Michael and Lawrence’s friendship is that it comes from the heart: two boys with much in common, nothing more. In a few years Lawrence will tell Michael that he is gay, and it doesn’t matter. What does matter is their affection for one another. I had no idea when I drew these strips that Lawrence would realize this about himself, and so it was a surprise to me too. Looking back at these two boys, enjoying what will ultimately be a life-long friendship, I’m proud of the story that evolved.
@comicsssfan: Ha, ha, ha! Oops, sorry, right, I am Canadian, so…. Please read the following article about Thunder Bay. Also, my nephew attended Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, studied Civil Engineering, and has an excellent & well paying job in the lovely province of Alberta. Please feel free to visit the beautiful city of Thunder Bay someday. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunder_Bay
Jaws was the villian in James Bond with the metal teeth. He was indestructible, probably because 007 made the mistake of trying to hit him in the mouth!

Or, that he made such a comment where Michael could hear and repeat such a comment.

The amazing thing is that, despite the example of his father, Michael is able in future to have a decent relationship with a girl…

Yup – it’s funny but it’s also a great example of how John is showing Michael disrespect for his mother.
