Vagabonds. @David, I still have over 150 VHS tapes. I wanted to be sure that they were copied. I’ve picked out 20 tapes to give him when we meet but I’m concerned since my friend had a heart problem that they will be too heavy for him to carry even though I’m meeting him a few blocks from his home. They’re even too heavy for me!

Morning, Vagabonds. Well, we’re working hard, getting the house ready for our German friends’ visit.

Good Monday morning Vagabonds.. Well waiting for the storm, rain most of the week, but the weekend is suppose to be dry. Yes Auther, when I first looked at the thermometer it read 34, a little nippy.. Jan, in response to your question, I believe that Gene Autry went into the service in WWII. The name of Hedy Lamarr comes to mind, although she was not in the service, she was an inventor a genius in fact. One of her inventions she came up with for the military in WWII is now the basses for such things as cell phone communication. She was very beautiful, and very smart..Well, you all take care..ttfn

    Good Morning, Vagabonds,

Our internet service is very slow this morning! Took forever to load this a.m.

Jimmy Stewart was certainly tops on my list of the Hollywood stars in WWII. And, of course, Glenn Miller, and William Holden.

    Good morning, Vagabonds.

Mark, you are right about Hedy Lamarr. She invented an anti-jamming device for torpedoes as well as raising $7 million in one evening for war bonds by selling kisses. (No typo there unless the article had it wrong.) The other female was Audrey Hepburn who at age 10 was a member of the Dutch resistance and carried messages across enemy lines.

The male actors (and one director) listed were:Robert Altman – Army pilotErnest Borgnine – Navy anti-submarine shipMel Brooks – Army infantryTony Curtis – Navy sub tenderKirk Douglas – Navy communications officerCharles Durning – Army infantry (was on the beach on D-Day)Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. – NavyHenry Fonda – Navy intelligenceClark Gable – Army air gunnerAlec Guinnes – Royal NavyChristopher Lee – RAFLee Marvin – Marine Corps (Pacific theater)Paul Newman – Navy air gunner and radiomanJack Palance – Army bomber pilotDonald Pleasance – RAF pilot (held in a German POW camp for a year – perfect prep for “The Great Escape”)Rod Steiger – Navy destroyer torpedomanJames Stewart – Army pilot & commander 445th bomber group

Beyond the article’s list, I know of Audie Murphy, Glenn Miller and William Holden. I didn’t know about Gene Autry.

So everyone have a great day (or as well as you can on a Monday).
