I often enjoyed a photo or 2 before a dinner party and, even if none were taken, I like to have any formal dinner tablescape to be artistic.
Back in my married housewife days, I often made very elaborately finished dishes – chicken salad made to look like a live chicken, potatoes duchess (white and yam) piped and rebaked, trays of glazed fresh fruits and little cakes. I seldom go to those extremes now, but then it’s years since I’ve cooked a dinner for more than just 6-8 people.
I plan class space in the next house that will allow a large dinner, because although my family are scattered in many states, most of his are local. I DID entertain the last boyfriend’s parents with mine back then (and had dinners at his house with his kids often, sometimes even with x-wife and her mother).
