What could be possibly be written on that long strip of recipe besides the store’s information (name, address, telephone number) and the pencil’s itenerary?
These receipts that all these places stuff in your hands are marketing ploys. They want you to visit their website to fill out a “survey”, for the main purpose of gathering your personal information – which they sell to marketers. I usually tell them that I don’t need the receipt.
I always get a “look” from them when I say Yes I have a CVS card but I don’t want to use it. One lady asked me why and I flat told her that I didn’t want to be responsible for the death of another tree for some goofy coupons that I don’t use anyway. lol
In the Air Force before computers were in every shop, we hand-typed Performance Reports. We used one, maybe two sheets if there were too many mistakes. Nowadays, each time there is so much as a typo, it gets reprinted. By the time they are finished, there are 8-16 sheets in the folder.
At any of the local supermarkets (no Walmart supermarkets here) if one buys one item there will be a minimum of a 12 inch long receipt (I measured it).
They list items at the original price, then another line for the discount from a sale, then another line for the discount with your card – one item therefore can be 3 lines (10 items 30 lines, etc). Then a subtotal, sales tax if it applies (not all food exempt in this state) and a total. There are store codes, names, listing of all the clubs they have and how many points I have in them (none as I don’t have kids or buy milk, etc.) Then the credit card receipt portion. Worst of all they list needed information after all this so one cannot rip off the portion with the junk info and toss it. Walmart (nonsupermarkets) at least one can rip off the survey and the use our app portions and toss them.

Recently I was told that non-printed receipts(thermal paper) are hazardous to your health.
