Mom could borrow a pair of Dads shoes, but it looks like her feet are bigger than Dads, so she’ll have to ware her flip-flops.

We had a babysitter who hit my brothers She was only hired when I (the oldest) could not babysit. My parents didn’t believe it at first. The next time they hired her, my sister said she was running away because she didn’t want to get hit. Mom said she was crazy. The babysitter showed up and smacked my sister. Two of brothers jumped on the babysitter. They told my sister to call mom & dad. When my parents came home my brothers and sisters were visibly shaken and the babysitter ran out the door. My parents talked to her parents. I don’t think she ever babysat again. At least not for my family! I wonder what happened to her? Can’t even remember her name anymore….

Hi MysteryCat. Yes, it does sound strange. Since there are no adults in Peanuts, Lucy sometimes plays a role that is sort of like a parent to Linus — relaying instructions from their mom, for example. In this case, it seems like Charles Schulz fell into that pattern, with Lucy talking the way that their mother normally would, by referring to “his dad” when talking about Linus’s father.

Hi rgcviper. In the earliest years of Peanuts, the adults would sometimes speak from “offstage.” Also, there was an early Sunday series with Lucy playing in a golf tournament with adults. Only the legs of the adults were shown.
