    If I miss my guess, some areas do still use leeches. They’re used in suturing to drain off the excess blood from a wound.

    Doctors actually do use leeches nowadays to stimulate blood flow through a reattached finger.

    Maggots are also used to remove necrotic flesh since they only eat what’s rotten and leave behind the healthy flesh.
