My granddaughters (eight and en) have had self-defense training for five plus years (aim for eyes, groin, throat, if an arm/hand is free, same aim with their feet). Their young male cousin was going to classes and they wanted to go also. Further, they are not to get in anyone’s car, friend’s or family’s, without permission from one of their parents (no, they do not have a cell phones; AND yes, they are being home-schooled). If one of them is taken, the other is to run screaming for their parent(s) or the police. Nothing is fail-safe, but it is a beginning.

In the ’60’s, my mom locked us, 9 and 6 years old, out of the house at 8:30 and said don’t knock until lunch. After we ate, we were put out again until six. We all lived.

Although I enjoy some of the benefits of today’s technology, the Mac Book Pro I am using right now, for example; sometimes you need to draw a line in the sand. Just because we can, doesn’t mean we should…

There is something good to be said for parents who take parenting duties seriously and keep tabs on the kids.
