Reminds me a little of short LDS movie called “The Mailbox” (just a long walk from the house to the mailbox and back). You can find it on YouTube. Don’t worry, non-LDS, is has no mention of LDS doctrine. It’s just about a widow wanting correspondence with her children.

Junk mail, also known as bulk mail in postal circles, is what generates revenue for the Postal Service, not first class mail. When the news reports on the fiscal woes of the Postal Service and mentions the decline of first class mail, they’re misleading the public. The real reason the Postal Service is in dire straits is because all the Post Master Generals since Marvin Runyon, and all the Postal Board of Governors has been robbing the system blind with bonuses and outrageous retirement benefits.

I’ve been reducing my junk mail (especially those with postpaid return envelopes) by marking the response cards to remove from mail lists. Occasionally I’ll put a stamp on..Persistence has been paying off. I’d say a 90% reduction in six months.

Hey I can relate to that! It’s around 800 feet of trees and field from my front porch to the mailbox. I’ve met many birds, squirrels, a couple of snakes.

It’s about 3/4 mile from my sister’s place to her mailbox. Once you turn off the main dirt road, you’re on a sandy road with ruts that turn into huge puddles. For me, it’s a few steps across the street. Just one more thing I prefer about living in Suburbia.

I’ve saved all the ‘keys’ that have been ‘bulk-mailed’ to me this spring from all the local car dealers; Kia, Buick, Ford, Chevvy, Dodge and one other I can’t remember..“Come on down and if this key fits, you get a free car!” Every dam one of them keys are exact duplicates. (shrug)

All of our junk mail is put out for recycling….. whether it gets recycled is another thing.

A couple of miles from here, the carrier has to walk his route as people still have their mailboxes hanging on their house. I feel so sorry for that man, spending his life delivering junk that goes straight into the recycle or trash bin. But then again, I guess it’s what keeps usps afloat and insures his pension. In a whole week, we might get two or three pieces of actual mail that matters.
