You will never feel more like seasick without being there than in an ENT doctor’s chair. Cooperate, Agnes. Sounds trite, but it’s for your own good. The jelly bean is gone forever.

No doubt, the doctor will be disappointed in giving up the jelly bean.

Hydrogen peroxide is great at getting out ear wax. Precautions apply, though: if you have a ruptured ear drum, you do NOT want to do that.

When I was a small child, I often got earaches. My dad would hold me on his lap and blow cigar smoke into my ears to soften the wax. I don’t know if it was his warm breath, or just cuddling in his lap, but it seemed to work. You can also just blow your warm breath into the child’s ear if you don’t smoke cigars.

Or try water slightly warmer than body temp, gently poured into the ear (an icing syringe with a long tip, say #7), hold the head to the side so the water doesn’t run out for about three minutes, then tilt the head the other way (an emesis basin from your last hospital visit is handy here), and repeat as necessary.

Unless you are a real, live ENT do not try to insert anything else into the ear canal!

Did anyone else catch the Ears-R-Us on the doc’s coat?

Never Put anything in your ear … smaller than your elbow. Said my Ear nose and throat doctor as he squirted hot molten lead into my ear!

I still vote for ear candling. That curette thingie sounds … like someone would be scraping the sides of the ear…. don’t like the sound of that…
