Democrat Donkey: It's the last play of the game. It's fourth and one inch. We're behind by five. What do you think? Field goal, or punt? We can kick ourselves after.
The Dems aren’t that organized, they will probably let the clock run out.
Time to go on the offensive. The GOP has been gaining because the Dems have let them get away with it.
Fight back, remind the public of how the GOP has been blocking everything, how the GOP created the problems we are trying to solve, such as two wars, destroyed economy, bank bailouts, and then just keep saying BUSH -BUSH-BUSH
Sadly its true. They have real progressives like Bernie Sanders, moderates like John “donkey face” Kerry, and conservatives in drag like Joe Lieberman.
Republicans are much better at enforcing party discipline; always have been.
Democrats also seem mostly incapable of confronting Republican Big Lie propaganda, no matter how laughable it should be (Death Panels and Swift Boat veterans being large examples).
I became an independant because the Democrats are feckless and the Republicans are evil.
Well, if the Dems follow Dick Jauron as their guiding soul the best bet would be to play not to lose, so … PUNT! A field goal can be blocked and bad things might happen.
The dems wasted too much time trying to make a pleasing to all bill instead of drafting a simple straightforward reform bill. Appeasing the right was a lost cause from day one. Time for all to drop partisanship and show some statesmenship.
To once again not take substantial action towards reform is not only inexcusable but destructive.
“Moonbats just can’t get a grip on reality, I swear.”
Reality isn’t something the Right wing has any grip on.
@O’Don, meetinthemiddle, d_legendary1, Ken Warren - Yep, totally agree. Democrats had this, but instead of trying to get work done, they attempted to please everyone and reached out to a party that has absolutely no interest in helping America or its people, solely in attacking and embarrassing the president. And unfortunately people are sheep who are willing to believe the first lie they come across, like “OMG this bill has death panels” or “it insured illegal aliens.” There’re plenty of good things that even the Republicans aren’t willing to do for the people such as bring an end to discrimination and severing coverage based on pre-existing conditions and ending the anti-trust exemption for insurance companies … but there’s also a lot of watered down bleeep in it, especially now, trying to show “bipartisanship.” But again, Democrats are more accepting, and the party has too many different ideologies in it.
It’s too bad there aren’t any viable third options, or I’d certainly vote “I,” but realistically the only way to keep the psychos with the pitch forks ready to burn my minority into the ground in a zealous bigoted witch hunt is to vote D so I will continue to do so, for safety reasons.
Toles is spot on here. What the Democrats need is leadership with backbone. In essence, what we need is another LBJ. I’m sick and tired of the Reids and Daschles we’ve been cursed with in recent years.
And the fact that Pelosi, Hoyer, and Clyburn won’t take the Senate bill to the House floor and do the work necessary to pass it is unbelievable.
All Americans deserve health care, but the Democratic congressional “leaders” all deserve to be unemployed.
Meanwhile, with seconds left in the game, the Republicans have already gone to the locker room to take a shower, talk to the press and get on the jet for their next game - - while the Democrats don’t even realize they are the only ones left on the field.
And here I thought that the stereotype was that College students were Liberal, and Conservatives try to get science and books banned from schools… so … how’s the “dumb” work again?
Poor Scott. Just a week or so ago he proudly announced on multiple threads that he was leaving here, because so many of his lying incendiary posts got deleted, and was instead going to a far-right forum.
A few days later, he’s back.
Welcome home, Scott, and I’m glad to see your brethren kicked you out just as much as we do.
This cartoon is an excellent example of Toles’ ability to get to the essence of a situation with a simple analogy. Good cartoon, no matter what you think about the situation.
Well, lonecat, if you find the cartoon to be commendable, then you are basically agreeing with the concept that politics is all a “game” of winners and losers, with the people who are supposed to be represented merely observers on the sidelines. That is certainly an accurate portrayal of politics, but nothing that should be encouraged or held in esteem. I believe that Toles is holding a Democrat victory in esteem here, and he is chastising their failure to go for the “win”.
Dear Habanero, I was under the impression that in an election some candidates win and some lose. And that in a congressional vote one side wins and the other side loses.
But I wasn’t commending the situation. I admire the cartoon. I’m interested in cartoon art as well as – sometimes more than – politics, and I think Toles is often very skilled.

That’s how the media, especially Fox of course, is portraying the Massachusetts election, H. Buck.
Scott Brown won; the 30+ uninsured lost.
(Er, except, Fox News didn’t mention the latter.)
