There’s no way I’m paying a monthly fee to use software. I just bought a really nicely designed Photoshop replacement for $99.

I tried Microsoft 355 but after spending 4 hours trying to make a simple table bought Pages and had my monthly report done in half the time,

The subscription model is just a gimic to squeeze extra cash out of bloated, old, outdated software. It’s time to move on.

$6000 to use the complete Adobe Creative Suite (CC) for 10 years is a bargain.

It has always been about making money. One problem with computers and software is it is too complicated for most people. We all use computers but few are able to use them well and we are always trying to climb the learning curve.

The Win 8.1 start screen is a perfect example of how not to design a UI and all these clouds compete rather than cooperate. I am quite computer literate on both SW and HW but I really am tired of always having to figure out how to make things work properly and retraining people every time there is an update or version change.

Microsoft and Adobe really have dismal help menus. In Office 365 I Google search for help rather than use their built in system.

I think they are trying to emulate Comcast and offer less service every year while raising the price at double the rate of inflation.

One important aspect of cloud use is the availability of internet. Many of the practice management software vendors are pushing cloud use hard. It makes sense, as we can save on servers, software updates, and we don’t have to worry about things like Micro$oft being unwilling to support XP, as examples. But, if your internet goes down, you are out of business. Worse, you can’t manage patient emergencies or even trouble-shoot issues if you can’t access previous exams. And given how our government has no interest in protecting our infrastructure, it’s only a matter of time before someone intentionally crashes the internet, and we will all be out of business.

The good news is that there will be a concerted effort to restore the internet, since the stock market must go on. Other aspects of life may benefit, but only the stock market is important enough to make this a priority, as has been shown by members of both parties.

Adobe used to be user (ALL users) friendly – sadly, now they’re only interested in financial gain.

Adobe’s Creative Cloud product can easily be sold without cloud technology. Jen’s got her clouds (& a few other things) mixed up here.
