I am not a sports fan, but I tried yesterday to find news on the internet that gave the facts about the accusation against an owner of a team that led to such a nuclear cloud permeating the “news” on tv and radio…..and found no article that reported the complete story.-1. When did Mr. Sterling say the offending words?2. Who taped them and gave them to the Media?-I found hints, especially in a quote of Donald Trump, that a former mistress who is suing Sterling for big money…and according to Sterling’s estranged wife, the woman had already received up to $2 million in gifts from him…..and all 3 are involved in lawsuits. Private business lawsuits.-Since when is it “proper” for private conversations to be used to scar a person for life and reap loss of free speech, loss of right to own property, loss of “tolerance” of organizations and leaders and Media in a campaign to push the man into a private Gulag or Leper Colony existence???-He is not accused of violence or physical harm to anyone.I have heard in the Media worse things being said by the “IN” crowd against conservatives and Christians!-I am sick to death of Hypocrite Liberals.

No matter how advanced or progressive a civilization becomes, there will always be people whose views are outside the mainstream. Some views are brilliant, some are reprehensible, but part of the beauty that is American society is that you are free to express yourself, no matter how stupidly you do so.

Having said that, government has a responsibility to be neutral. My neighbor can choose to adorn his property with religious symbols, but my city courthouse cannot. I’m fine with that.

Don’t despair Abe, you must know victory is never easy and progress is evident. You may even have company out there on the National Mall when the first black president takes his rightful place, and for that you can take credit. .But I wonder what Abe would think about a man’s right to free speech, due process, and privacy being encroached by a piling-on media, NBA, and public in the rush to appear to be on the right side of a sensitive issue?.Consider:- The conversation with which Sterling is being crucified apparently was recorded in the privacy of his home and quite likely without his awareness and intent. - Sterling and the Babe appeared to have a personal services contract that rewarded her handsomely and provided him with her comfort and consort.- If a man is compensating his “partner” with $1.8 million in gifts and merchandise including a Bentley, it seems he should have some rights, and particularly the right not to be cuckolded. - Compensation of $1.8 million would seem to be for more than just sexual gratification. If that is not the case, he must be a very poor negotiator, and that is unlikely.- Sterling’s unfortunate wording amounted to him saying that he didn’t want her bringing black players to Clippers games or posting on Instagrams – “for the world to see so they have to call me.” But it seems likely he would have been just as unhappy with her bringing white players, or any players to the games. In other words the issue was not with black players, but with her flaunting that she was being unfaithful. Seems not to be an unreasonable request for $1.8 million. - This 80+ year old man does not appear to be unreasonably controlling, as he gave the Babe permission to "bring them to the house, to sleep with them, etc., etc.. " In fact he must be commended for his generosity and open-mindedness.- The Babe was reported to be attending games with Magic Johnson, who is reported to have designs on owning the club. Again the problem not being that Magic Johnson is black but that he would like to take over the team. It begs the question – was Sterling set up and manipulated by conniving individuals with a personal agenda?.So Abe, what do you think? Is being a douche-bag sufficient cause to have your rights as an American citizen trampled?

Being at least somewhat naive myself, what I do not understand is why Sterling did not just have such a sensitive conversation with his girl friend in the total privacy of his own mansion? Why say these kinds of thing of one of these new, and very public, social mediums?

You know you’re just making yourself and every conservative, many of whom don’t share this point of view, look bad when you post something as inane as the whole ‘white mom black mom’ thing. Right?

I don’t disagree that Obama really hasn’t done anything to deserve a statue. But I don’t think that’s really the crux of Gypsy’s post. And if they do give Obama a statue, so what? If him getting a statue helps inspire younger generations, put that puppy up. Most importantly, neither party has been able to come up with an interesting white candidate in years. Hopefully they’ll expand their search and find some gems they would have normally overlooked because of skin color.

I don’t have a clue what you mean by your Bill Clinton/white mother/Herman Cain comment. But perhaps you answered your own question in that paragraph..The case for a spot for Obama on the National Mall (short answer):Being a transformational president – young black guy runs for president with minimal campaign organization; defeats the favourite candidate of the powerful Clinton machine and a bunch of white conservative guys; wins re-election; a number of legislative achievements despite overwhelming and often racist resistance; the legacy achievement of reforming the health care system where numerous presidents before tried and failed; brought the nation out of the worst financial mess since the Great Depression; kept the nation safe; shut down two wars and started no new wars.

interesting article on grant land yesterday. one thing i took away from it is that most NBA owners are rich white guys. most of the players are black. it sort of harkens back to the days of the plantation owner and his slaves.

@disgustedamerican I don’t understand your comment. You seem to feel it is OK for Sterling to make racist comments, “free speech” but at the same time you castigate others for calling him a racist scumbag. I don’t get you and your ilk.

-The article at the url above is worthy of reading and thinking about the beginning of a New Age of Thought Police…IMO.-@cenright….You made a gigantic leap to assume that I am okay with whatever Sterling said. If you were a careful reader, you would not have made that error.-1. my post cites the Media for reporting partial “news”….not the full and complete mitigating facts about how the tape became “public”….2.my post is angry at the Media and certain national spokespeople jumping on a very late Bandwagon to Punishthe private, not public, words of Sterling with whom they were supportive and took his money and re-signed contracts and continued to benefit from his ownership of his sports team.-If Sterling can lose his business life over a conversation with a mistress in private who has her own agenda to harm him, then you who support the Thought Police better rethink the consequences of the same New Rule being applied to YOU.
