Thanks, Jim. Every so often you grab this old man’s heartstrings. This looks like one of those times. When a child is stricken with a major ailment of some kind that can be fatal, I always think back to a very popular song that I still get misty hearing. That song is TEDDYBEAR’S LAST RIDE, sung by the late Red Sovine. Go ahead and grab my heart -I’ve seen kids that never had the chance to grow up and I believe it is our responsibility to make people aware of their need for love and all he encouragement we can give them instead of staying away like many do. Love a sick child and make him or her more able to handle their pain and fear. And, if they go before you do, remember the parents and don’t just disappear out of their lives - they need our love then more than ever.
The story on GA does effect not only the small child dealing with cancer but siblings too and Mr. Scancarelli is doing a great job with a difficult story line.
Don´t know where are real steam locomotives available that would grand wishes to kids, but Disney have actual steam machine trains, although built to scale, and may be accesible for such kind of events. Maybe contacting the people of Grand a Wish or whaterver they are named.
It’s especially sad when a “troll” has nothing clever to say. Years ago now there was a legendary gocomics troll who went by the name “notnormanchubsyubsy”. He clearly made an impression on me… not really in a good way, because he seemed to exist solely to foment outrage, but I had to admire the intelligence he brought to his misguided task. For good or ill, trolls today just don’t seem to have that kind of ability and dedication to their craft. Recent trolls are at best mere shades of Norman. “Yawn” indeed.
Good question! Perhaps no troll can ever measure up to NotNormanChubsyUbsy in terms of pure, unbridled ranting and mayhem. He would insult, and then whine that he was being insulted. Attack, and then complain about being wronged and attacked. Perhaps best of all, he would tell everyone that if they didn’t like his comments, they should just skip over them, while never doing that himself– and never applying that advice to his reading of a comic strip he almost never enjoyed. Yes, he set the bar high, or low, depending on your perspective.
