Not really. In light of the amount of attention devoted to the anticipation of the Prom and then to the saga of getting there, there was remarkably little pay-off in terms of the Prom itself.
Ahh, the mystery of the self-healing clothes is explained— after the sticktights are removed, only the clothing waist-down is tattered & torn!*To the folks, it looks like they’ve been fighting each other off.*But real downer— we do NOT get to see what Crystal & Knute wore! :(
RB – I agree completely with your list of 5 things we also needed to see! Would’ve especially loved the strip where Ox gets the last dance with Tiff! (Plus Crystal & Knute’s attire, of course)
Luann and Stone Soup are my two favorite comics. I was so looking forward to a prom story line about all the different characters and what actually happens at the prom. Mr. Evans is usually top notch, but this time he missed the mark with such a short one trick prom story line. I feel awful to complain because I could never do what Mr Evans does wonderfully, but I just felt let down about this short story line. I think a lot of other people were left down also.
Oh well, if this is the worst thing that happens, aren’t we all lucky. Mr. Evans keep up the good work – maybe we can have some flashback prom story lines in the future.
Plus, with a good imagination, anything not covered in a story can be left up to us to “sort out” for ourselves. If we fancy that “such and such” would happen, then if it’s not covered in that arc, and until something comes up that does , then we can just imagine that the others were there (or not there, if that be our inclination), or that this thing or that thing were done. – And that’s exactly how it happens when we read a book… we supply whatever information the writer deems to be “open” or doesn’t care to go into particulars over. – Sort of the gist of the song “Answering Machine” by Rupert Holmes. (“Well, of course you can write the plot, cos when I called her, this is the answer I got….”)

As I was mentioning above, we can supply the rest. Not only that, but just that glimpse would be enough to tell what’s taking place, but we have to be paying attention to it. She promised him a dance. She didn’t promise him a “full” date. We can imagine that that’s exactly what took place. – And same as for any other characters. We get a bit of “direction” and if we’re paying attention, all the “clues” are right there. Same way that that little bit of radio blurb about the traffic, the fact that Luann’s words seemed a bit of foreshadowing, and that week with her and Tiffany frantically making plans at “Kidz 1st”, where Lu gave the “clue” about “If we keep on schedule” was actually enough to flesh out the whole story…..

Didn’t get answered until the “Enterprise” series). But many discussed amongst themselves the “who/what/where”. When the movies came out, some things were addressed, some weren’t. But people either waited for the next installment or the next series, or just went with their own conjecture. – Same thing with works of art at a museum, or with song lyrics. There aren’t “instructions” to tell us how to look at a work of art, or with songs. But if we pay attention, there are “little clues” to help us get an interpretation out of them.. – So maybe that’s how we have to look at it. Based on what we know as we read the strip (doesn’t matter if we are just beginning or have read for a while). We can pretty much just let our own imaginations “fill in the blanks” until the time comes that the artist/creator/inventor may choose to “show us” where he intends for it to go (sometimes, they didn’t have it in mind)…

Some find a way to create a direction to take the original series in a way that the originator didn’t anticipate, or never chose to go…. some even from “fan fiction” of certain works. -Star Trek was originally set as a sort of “Bonanza In Space”. I liked Death Valley, too. – I think that the fact that Bonanza had an “all star cast” (Roberts/Greene/Landon/Blocker, etc.) gave it a bit of “juice”, as well….

There’s also a network somewhere that shows the westerns that are more obscure… I can’t remember it’s name, though. – Sometimes TV Land has Bonanza and Gunsmoke on at nearly similar times to MeTV. Oh, that TV Land. How it used to show all the classics (including some classic commercials!)…
Ha ha!! – There’s a life-size Spock cutout standing in a thrift store (one that’s truly unique and long-standing in it’s own right) that I keep saying “I wonder what they’d want for it”.. – A couple of decades later, I’m still saying “Maybe I should ask what it’ll go for”… – I figure since it’s still there, it must be something “for display only”. after all these years… but then again, the same cashier is also still in there! = *(actually, they’ve always been a pretty nice person to deal with and good at what they do, all things considered!)…
I graduated midterm and went on to college. About one percent of me says I missed something when I didn’t go to the Senior Ball (not Prom @ my h.s.). Ninety-nine percent of me says I did the right thing. I’m glad Luann is happy. What is right for one isn’t necessarily right for the other.
Maybe it’s just for dramatic effect, but why would her dress become so raggedy from just climbing over a fence or two? From a big bramble patch in the field, maybe?

There’s also a network somewhere that shows the westerns that are more obscure… I can’t remember it’s name, though. – Sometimes TV Land has Bonanza and Gunsmoke on at nearly similar times to MeTV. Oh, that TV Land. How it used to show all the classics (including some classic commercials!)…

Ha ha!! – There’s a life-size Spock cutout standing in a thrift store (one that’s truly unique and long-standing in it’s own right) that I keep saying “I wonder what they’d want for it”.. – A couple of decades later, I’m still saying “Maybe I should ask what it’ll go for”… – I figure since it’s still there, it must be something “for display only”. after all these years… but then again, the same cashier is also still in there! = *(actually, they’ve always been a pretty nice person to deal with and good at what they do, all things considered!)…

I graduated midterm and went on to college. About one percent of me says I missed something when I didn’t go to the Senior Ball (not Prom @ my h.s.). Ninety-nine percent of me says I did the right thing. I’m glad Luann is happy. What is right for one isn’t necessarily right for the other.

Maybe it’s just for dramatic effect, but why would her dress become so raggedy from just climbing over a fence or two? From a big bramble patch in the field, maybe?
