It’s hard to be a lap cat when the only human in the area is too small to have a lap. Guess sometimes you just have to make do as a swinging toupee cat.
I remember how certain readers would complain about the cats when they were first introduced. I see that they might now agree with Brian with how much they have added to the strip.
