I don’t think he is a Catholic priest. The collar is different.

Elly was probably hoping or expecting to have someone to talk to. But, this guy is reading.

I remember when there was a smoking section you could always find a fun person to chat to, even if you are a non-smoker!

That collar looks Anglican (plus the title FBOFW is taken from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer).

I’m planning a trip to Winnipeg this June. Will the snow be melted by then?

Elly should’ve brought her own book. But if it’s any comfort the guy next to her seems to be nearly finished with his, and maybe he’ll want to chat then.

Nothing worse than a 5 hour red-eye flight in a middle seat that was too small (and I am not a large person), wouldn’t recline and had reduced leg room. I got off that plane so cramped up I could barely move. At least my husband was in the aisle seat so he could stick his long legs out into said aisle (except when the flight attendants wanted to get past him). Not much sleep on that flight, I can tell you.

Sorry, Ellie – I’m one of those who vastly prefers reading to conversation.

We people that are larger than you also hate to fly on planes that have seats designed for 4th graders. I have a bad knee that doesn’t even bend 90 degrees. Can you feel my pain?

I think the implication is that a priest must be boring. Pretty offensive, actually. I think the average priest has seen far more of the world, and the human condition, than the average citizen.

Pre-boarding 24 hours, before, is the key.

exturk: Last I checked, Winnipeg was in Manitoba, not Alberta, and those I have met from there report the summers can break 100 on rare occasions.

I don’t understand some people’s need to one up to strangers, but in this case at least she’ll be safe. :)

I love chatting with pastors, especially literary-minded ones. They will be the first to tell you that, once people know they are pastors, they are often quite uncomfortable.

Normally, I am too busy reading my own books to talk to the people near me, but in this case, I’d love to talk theology. Of coruse, the pastor would probably like to talk something else. And so it goes.. :-)

Very creative and imaginative. You should write for soap operas.

Certainly Anglican priests are abundant in Canada, and even United Church (1925 union of Presbyterian, Methodist, and Congregational) clergy might on rare occasions (but probably not while travelling). My own United Methodist pastor has been known to wear one and I doubt anyone would mistake her for Catholic.
