We need decriminalization, and a rational policy FEDERAL on pot, but don’t need coke back in Coke. Put the emphasis on the real drugs, and dealers, at the TOP of the food chain, not the users on the bottom.

The most strident opponents of legalization of marijuana has been pharmaceutical companies, liquor companies, and even drug dealers themselves. Prohibition did not work in the 1920s and it has not worked in the years between 1960 and 2014. Penalties for smoking and driving, smoking in public, and especially for providing cannabis to the still forming minds of minors need to be tough. I’m glad the Denver Post has a “Pot Critic”. Perhaps it will create a scale by which people can decide if they want the cannabis they smoke/drink/eat will make them functionally high, comfortably numb, or stoned into helplessness. Do you want a beer that is 3%, 6%, or 12%? Bacardi at 80 proof, or 151?Same difference. Respectfully,C.

The marijuana deaths link is a well-known fake news story. Like the one about Kim Jong Un’s uncle being fed to the dogs.

So are you ok with alcohol? .Alcoholism takes part of your life and flushes it down. Living in a drunken stupor is not living..If you are of the belief that alcohol is bad and will take your life… then you are consistent, and that’s fine. If you think alcohol is not a problem for people or society… then your argument goes out the window.

LOVE the toon…I can remember watching “Refer Madness” with a bunch of college buddies back in the early 80’s at one of those midnight movie nights.

Oregon “medical marijuana” allows “grow your own”, and with my multiple conditions, and the fact “commercial drugs” have more side effects than benefits, I’m looking into it again. IF the feds drop their ridiculous description of marijuana as a class I, and states maintain class II (it’s NOT a narcotic!) and legalize GROW YOUR OWN, what will the cost of the product do? They’re now charging $100 a gram, when I was in college, it was $100 for a “brick”, or kilogram!

Legalize commercial hemp for paper, fabric, oils etc (like motor fuel as well) and also take the excess profit out of the smokeable variety.

When I say stop the dealers of the true HARD drugs, like meth, opiates, and illegally marketed pharmas like Oxy, I mean make the dealers ingest whatever they have as product! On the spot! and book them into the morgue, and take that policy to the top, and we might find more than a few prominent “respected businessmen” , like, CEOs of pharmaceutical companies, and congresspersons, and other government officials, taking a “nap” on stainless steel.

How do you know this if you haven’t used it?

There are plenty of people who use and don’t abuse marijuana. People who will share one joint and stop there. People who smoke once a month.

Assuming that all marijuana users are “pot heads” is as silly as assuming that all alcohol users are “alcoholics”

FYI: the New York Times writer you linked to is the “very worried pundit” in the cartoon.
