The one thing that is true, in the ILL state congress, is that Republicans have had a history of funding science in general and Democrats have a history of funding primarily special projects.
What’s interesting is that this cartoon really isn’t political. And yet, right out of the gate, the commentators have made it so. That’s really sad on so many levels.
Correction: It is GOREbal Warming. That is the irrational belief that an ex-politician who failed science in college knows what the planetary atmospherics and weather will be with 100% accuracy and that those changes are due ENTIRELY to anthropogenic CO2 production.
The “historical record”, not just “average” says Crater Lake National Park on this date should have at least 56 inches of snow on the ground, they have under 9 inches. Over the last 100 years of records at my house, we should have 12-15 inches of snow on the ground, we have NONE, and it’s been like that for the last four years, indicating a longer term “change” in yes, weather, but also climate. Plants and critters around the world are indicating CLIMATE IS CHANGING, along with ocean acidification and other indicators of big time problems.
Even the sea ice change in Antarctica in summer, and the HUGE ice sheet that recently broke off is the result of longer term warming (even snowfall increases can be the result of WARMING, not cooling!).
But guys like Rush are very familiar with “snow” or “blow”, and work very hard at the latter, in several senses, and have “fans” to keep their hot air circulating.
There seems to be some simplistic notion that global warming would mean everyone should be hot. ’Tain’t that simple, folks. Changes in snowfall patterns and ice melting could change air currents and the oceans’ temperatures at places that would influence the weather patterns. For my part, I’m happy to see a real winter again. Of course, I’m retired and don’t have to fight it every day but it sure is pretty to look at.
Ah,the days when scores of idiots would blow by our “chains required” signs, and get to the next curve and end up in the ditch (if they were lucky, the other side of the road was a cliff!) Tow trucks made good money, but it is miserable pulling these morons out during blizzards. I ALMOST miss the fun of writing the tickets to hand them as they got into the tow truck with the driver though.

asked: “(How’s that cold snap working out for you softy Southerners?)”
I’m Southern in several ways and you’re right, I wouldn’t be able to handle your bloody weather. But…
this convinced me that I’ll only visit my family in Canada in the Summer.

Sometime I get more laughs from the ridiculously idiotic comments than the innocuous cartoon.
