Personally I like Trout’s mother the way she is—a sort of delightful, dis functional background item. When we lived out in the far rural part of our state, one of our neighbors was a divorced lady with five children. I’ve since wondered how she got custody of the children, but that’s another matter. The household was effectively led by the 14-year old son, who was about as mature and polite as one could imagine. Said lady was basically crazy, but she was plenty pleasant n her (not too frequent) lucid moments. She was eventually arrested halfway across the state for demonstrating an oral sex act to her three-year old in a parking lot. Two days later,the DFS pulled in and took off with the whole bunch of them (including David, the 14-year old). I sometimes wonder what happened to them. If any of those kids made it to a normal adulthood, the state should be knighting David.-———————————————The whole point I guess is you take your neighbors how they come. The whore with a heart of gold may be a shopworn cliche. but that doesn’t mean such people don’t exist.
…we don’t really seemuch of trout’s home life, just what we hear from agnes and trout…trout is fed, clothed, and is going to school – just because her mom has a lot of “uncles” over doesn’t mean she does not love and take care of trout…
